Bio-Metrics, established in 2019, is an international public health and research company, specializing in providing technical assistance for biomarker testing and measurements to health-related surveys and studies conducted among vulnerable populations in domestic and international settings.
Bio-Metrics staff provides technical assistance in the collection of biomarker data, laboratory training and support for biomarker testing, implementation of quality assurance plans, interpretation and use of biomarker data, development of technical documents, and guidance on the selection and integration of biomarkers in health surveys.
Dean Garrett, Ph.D., MPH, MLS (ASCP)

Dean Garrett is an internationally recognized expert in the adaptation of field-friendly techniques for biomarker testing and measurement in resource-constrained settings. His areas of expertise are the biochemical assessment of micronutrient deficiencies, clinical laboratory medicine, laboratory capacity strengthening, and assay development using dried blood spot samples.
He formerly held the position of Laboratory & Biomarker Advisor to the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) Program, a multi-million-dollar USAID-funded international development initiative implementing key biomarker projects and building laboratory capacity in sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. He represented PATH on the WHO sub-Group on Laboratory Capacity Strengthening and an invited speaker at the “Expert Meeting” on a platform for biomarker-based surveillance, Merieux Foundation, Veyrier-du-Lac, France.
He served as a consultant to RAND/UCLA on the Indonesian Family Life Survey, the Ministry of Health, Government of Belize, IFPRI/Harvest Plus, and the Charles Drew Memorial Hospital (Los Angeles, California).
Dr. Garrett has over 25 years of experience in laboratory science and is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology. He earned his Ph.D., from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and his MPH from the University of California at Los Angeles.
